One Mu’ammar Tukur who happened to be the son of ex-District Head of Bakori has been given a death sentence by hanging by a Katsina State High Court after being convicted of committing murder when he stabbed one Shafir Muktar to death.

Justice Abbas Bawale in judgment stated that the prosecution which is being headed by Mr Aminu Garba successfully established the case of the alleged murder beyond reasonable doubt. This is because five witnesses along with other relevant exhibits were presented to prove their point, as being needed by law including the victim’s death, cause of the death and intention behind the act.

The incident happened April 21 2008 when a fight broke out between the convict and some of the witnesses presented by the prosecution at a viewing centre.

It was stated by the judge that attempt made by the defence counsel to dispute the evidence of the prosecution were all fruitless, when he argued that the metallic material used to commit the crime was not displayed before the court.

According to the judge, the convict ran away between 2008 and 2013, but was apprehended during his mother’s burial at the grave yard.

Speaking further, the judge held that the plea for leniency could not be heard due to some legal constraints as enshrined by law, and suggested for such plea to be forwarded to the state governor. And said an appeal could be made within the space of 90 days.

The judge also said the plea for leniency could not be entertained because the court’s discretion was blocked by law and directed that the plea should be sent to the state governor.

He advised the defence to file its appeal within 90 days.

Though the location the video was shot was not made clear, nevertheless, Shekau speaking both Hausa and Arabic claimed that the video was shot on Christmas Day.

Recall in September how the said Shekau showed himself in a video clip debunking all the claimed credited to the military that he had been seriously wounded during a major onslaught.

During his appearance, he vowed to continue the long battle with the Nigerian government unless Islamic state was imposed in northern Nigeria.

“Our aim is to establish an Islamic Caliphate and we have our own Caliphate, we are not part of Nigeria.”

President Buhari in an announcement said a months-long military invasion Sambisa Forest brought about the final defeat of Boko Haram insurgents in their last stronghold.

“The Nigerian Army gives utmost priority to the rights of detainees especially women and children.

“We always try to fast track investigation to determine their fate, while those found innocent were released with out delay,” he said.

Ezugwu added:” Consequently, between February and October this year we have had five releases.

“In February 135 persons comprising mainly women and children were released, 204 were released in May, while the remaining three releases were carried out in September and October”.

He said that the army had also improved on the provision of welfare for the detainees.

“As part of the military high command care for the vulnerable persons under our protective custody.

“We have identified areas needing attention including feeding, health care, decongestion of cells, respect for detainees rights, sanitation and personal hygiene, ” Ezugwu said.

He said children and vulnerable persons were fed three times daily with balanced diet.

“We always provide meat or fish in every meal and drinks every Sunday for them.

“If fact, some of those released would have preferred to remain with us if they had the choice rather than move to IDPs camps,” he said.

Ezugwu commended the organisers of the forum, saying the event was timely.

”So far, the troops have recovered 1 General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), 7 AK-47 rifles and a large quantity of ammunition. Mopping up and exploitation are ongoing,” Usman disclosed.

One Alhassan Musa, a 28-year-old was summoned on Wednesday in a Magistrates' Court sitting at Audu Bako Secretariat, Kano, for allegedly raping nine under-age boys.

MORE VICTORY FOR THE NIGERIAN ARMY AGAINST BOKO HARAM.

The Nigerian Army, operating under the 118 Task Force Battalion of the 7th Brigade successfully ambushed and defeated the devilish Boko Haram terrorists and retrieved high calibre munitions from the insurgents on Thursday.

According to the Army spokesman, the soldiers successfully took over one Buffalo Land Cruiser gun truck mounted with an Anti-Aircraft gun, 1,600 rounds of 12.7mm Armour Piercing Incendiary (API) ammunitions, 563 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition for General Purpose Machine Guns and 57 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, after a brief shoot out with the outlawed Islamic group.

According to Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, most of the insurgents were taken unaware by the ambush attack and abandoned their vehicles and logistic supplies and escaped with bullet wounds.

The spokesman’s speech reads:

“Following reliable information about movement of remnants of suspected Boko Haram terrorists, troops of 118 Task Force Battalion, 7 Brigade, laid an ambush for the terrorists today morning”, he said.

“The troops laid the ambush about 3 kilometres away from Goneri town, South West of Kukawa Local Government Area, where they encountered the unsuspecting terrorists in 2 gun trucks and on motorcycles and engaged them. An unconfirmed number of the terrorists escaped with gun shot wounds abandoning 1 Buffalo Land Cruiser gun truck mounted with an Anti-Aircraft gun, 1,600 rounds of 12.7mm Armour Piercing Incendiary (API) ammunitions, 563 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition for General Purpose Machine Guns and 57 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition.

“The troops further recovered 1 motorcycle, 7 jerry cans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and Automotive Gasoline Oil (AGO), a pair of Nigerien Army uniform, 2 Cameroonian telecommunication service providers SIM cards, as well as a pair of the Boko Haram terrorists Special Forces uniform. They also recovered 1 Samsung Galaxy Tablet and assorted drugs and such as Climax Oxytocin, Tetracyclic HC1 Ointment, Drips and Springe, amongst others.

“Consolidating on this success, the troops are further exploiting the situation while troops of 157 Task Force Battalion are blocking likely escape routes of remnants of the terrorists in Mile 90, Yoyo, Barwati and Kekeno villages”.

Another success for the Nigerian Army as they engaged and killed dozens of Boko Haram members in a serious gun battle Tuesday.

The insurgents met their death as they tried to attack a military base in Kangarwa, Borno State.

Though, it was reported that the military overpowered them, two soldiers lost their lives in the attack.

Due to their dislodgement from Sambisa, the insurgents recently made Kangarwa their stronghold.

This attack by the insurgents came after the Chief of Defence Staff visited the area on Thursday to appreciate the gallant soldiers after the Army recaptured the town.

According to the Army spokesman, Sani Usman: “Troops of 119 Task Force Battalion stationed in Kangarwa northern Borno State, have successfully repelled an attack by Boko Haram terrorists Tuesday evening. The attack which started at about 6.30pm, was successfully repelled after about 3 hours of exchange of heavy gunfire that inflicted tremendous casualty on the terrorists. Unfortunately, 2 of our gallant soldiers paid the supreme price, while 7 were wounded in action. Due to poor visibility, the number of terrorists killed could not be ascertained for now.”

It was also reported that the corpses of the gallant soldiers who lost their lives and those wounded are being evacuated even as mop up operation is being carried out. He also went further to say that support from the Nigerian and Chadian Air Force fighter jets made the battle a success.

The Nigerian Police, Benue State Command has stated that number death in the recent attack by Fulani men from May 30 and June 20 2016 was not 81.

According to the Police spokesperson, ASP Moses Yamu through the Facebook page of the Police Headquarters, they said only 22 death and not 81 occurred.

Okay, let us assume it was 22, yet one cannot imagine how under Buhari’s regime the death of 22 as they said will be taken so casually that they had to use the adjective “only”, whereas, in a civilised society, the death of one citizen gives everyone serious concern, not to talk of 22 as the police claimed.

President Buhari is always quick to condemn killings in other countries, yet up till now, he has not make any concrete move to bring this evil act by these insurgents who disguise as herdsmen to an end, rather, he is pushing for the establishment of grazing reserve in the country against the wish of the owners of those lands through legislators loyal to him.
